Job Specification:

Duties and responsibilities at this level entail:

  1. Carrying out implementation, monitoring and periodic review of procedures and standards for undertaking interior design and construction work;
  2. Ensuring proper custody of interior design procedures and manuals;
  3. Carrying out quality assurance and offer guidance to other interior designers on interior design works;
  4. Coordinating, supervising and reviewing of work done by other interior designers to the level of Senior Interior Designer;
  5. Participating in feasibility study and planning for interior design projects;
  6. Reviewing of interior designs, specifications and drawings done by external consultants contracted by NHC;
  7. Reviewing of tender documentation interior designs;
  8. Participating in evaluation of contractual claims;
  9. Liaising with necessary agencies/authorities for inspections and approvals of interior designs aspects;
  10. Participating in procurement processes for housing projects;
  11. Undertaking monitoring and evaluation of interior designs projects;
  12. Supervising interior design projects to ensure quality and adherence to specifications;
  13. Undertaking stakeholder engagement for interior design projects and matters;
  14. Preparing material schedules and Labour costs for maintenance works in liaison with Estates Department;
  15. Representing Interior Design Section and participating in technical, planning and marketing committees in the Corporation;
  16. Participating in research on interior designs, technology and materials;
  17. Participating in training of students and interns attached to Interior Design Section;

Person Specification:

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

  1. At least eight (8) years relevant work experience three (3) of which should have been in a supervisory role;
  2. Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design or its equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized institution;
  3. Master’s degree in Interior Design or its equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized institution;
  4. Corporate Member of the Architectural Association of Kenya or any other recognized professional body in good standing;
  5. Registered by the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors (BORAQS) as Professional Architect;
  6. Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from recognized institution;
  7. Proficiency in computer applications; and
  8. Fulfills the requirements of chapter six of the Constitution.
