Principal Engineer (Civil/Structural) - NHC/57/2024

Job Specification:

Duties and responsibilities at this level entail:

  1. Carrying out implementation, monitoring and periodic review of procedures and standards for undertaking engineering design and implementation of work;
  2. Ensure proper custody of Engineering procedures and manuals;
  3. Carrying out quality assurance and offer guidance to other Engineers on Engineering works;
  4. Coordination, supervision and review of work done by other Engineering staff to the level of Senior Engineer;
  5. Participate in feasibility study and planning for housing and infrastructure projects;
  6. Review of engineering designs, specifications and drawings done by external consultants contracted by NHC;
  7. Review of tender documentation in liaison with other Engineers, Architects and Quantity Surveyors;
  8. Participate in evaluation of contractual claims;
  9. Liaise with necessary agencies/authorities for inspections and approvals of engineering aspects;
  10. Participate in procurement processes in the Corporation;
  11. Undertake monitoring and evaluation of infrastructure projects;
  12. Supervise construction of housing and infrastructure projects to ensure quality and specification with respect to engineering aspects;
  13. Undertake stakeholder engagement for infrastructure projects and matters;
  14. Ensure collaboration with project enablers such as utility and service providers;
  15. Representing Engineering Department and participating in technical, planning and marketing committees in the Corporation;
  16. Participate in research and development on housing and infrastructure designs, technology and materials.

Person Specification:

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

  1. At least eight (8) years relevant work experience three (3) of which should have been in a supervisory role;
  2. Bachelors Degree in Civil/Structural/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  3. Masters Degree in Civil/Structural/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  4. Corporate Membership with the Institution of Engineers of Kenya or any other recognized professional body in good standing;
  5. Registered by the Engineers Board of Kenya (E.B.K.) as a Professional Engineer;
  6. Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from recognized institution;
  7. Proficiency in computer applications; and
  8. Fulfilled the requirements of chapter six of the Constitution.
