Assistant Manager, Interior Design - NHC/55/2024

Job Specification:

Duties and responsibilities at this level entail:

  1. Participating in formulation and implementation of interior design policies, strategies, procedures, and standards for undertaking design for construction works;
  2. Coordinating interior design operations;
  3. Advising on interior design matters;
  4. Participating in feasibility study and planning for housing projects;
  5. Preparing and approving interior designs, drawings, and specifications;
  6. Reviewing interior design contracts specifications for approval;
  7. Monitoring and supervising interior design projects to ensure quality, timeliness, cost, and specification;
  8. Certifying completed works in interior design;
  9. Liaising with necessary agencies/authorities for inspections and approvals;
  10. Preparing and implementing Interior Design Section’s performance contracts;
  11. Collecting, maintaining, and managing of interior design data;
  12. Training and development of departmental staff;
  13. Developing a comprehensive system of monitoring and evaluation of interior design programs and projects.
  14. Reviewing of Interior designs, specifications and drawings done by other staff in the Section;
  15. Review of tender documentation in liaison with Engineers and Quantity Surveyors;
  16. Oversee supervision of interior design projects and to ensure quality and specification;
  17. Reviews evaluation of contractual claims;
  18. Representing Interior Design Section and participating in technical, planning and marketing committees in the Corporation;
  19. Participating in research and development on housing & built environment designs, technology and materials.

Person Specification:

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

  1. At least ten (10) years relevant work experience, four (4) of which should have been in a supervisory role;
  2. Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design or its equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized institution;
  3. Master’s degree in Interior Design or its equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized institution;
  4. Corporate Member of the Architectural Association of Kenya (A.A.K) or any other recognized professional body in good standing;
  5. Registered by the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors (BORAQS) as a Professional Architect;
  6. Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from recognized institution;
  7. Proficiency in computer applications; and
  8. Fulfills the requirements of chapter six of the Constitution.
