Principal Physical Planner - NHC/67/2024

Job Specification:

Duties and responsibilities at this level entail:

  1. Implementing and reviewing policies, strategies, procedures and standards on physical planning and land survey;
  2. Collecting, analyzing site, geographical data and preparing physical development plans to guide housing schemes;
  3. Preparing land use plans and obtaining change of user as required;
  4. Providing information for feasibility study and planning of housing and infrastructure projects;
  5. Supervising outsourced consultants such as Land Surveyors and Physical Planners to ensure implementation of their services to specifications;
  6. Undertaking research on physical planning and urbanization;
  7. Ensuring custody of physical planning records;

Person Specification:

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

  1. At least eight (8) years relevant work experience three (3) of which should have been in a supervisory role;
  2. Bachelors Degree in Planning, Physical Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, Urban Planning, Regional Planning or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution; OR Bachelors Degree in relevant field and Post Graduate diploma in Planning, Physical Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, Urban Planning, Regional Planning or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
  3. Masters Degree Planning, Physical Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, Urban Planning, Regional Planning or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;
  4. Member of the Kenya Institute of Planners or Architectural Association of Kenya (Town Planning Chapter) or any other recognized professional body in good standing and where applicable;
  5. Registered by the Physical Planners Registration Board applicable;
  6. Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from recognized institution;
  7. Proficiency in computer applications; and
  8. Fulfills the requirements of chapter six of the Constitution.
