Senior Mechanical Engineer

Job Specification:

Duties and responsibilities at this level entail: -

  1. Initiating formulation, implementation, monitoring and review of procedures and standards for undertaking engineering design and implementation of work;
  2. Participating in feasibility study and planning for housing and infrastructure projects;
  3. Preparing engineering designs, specifications and drawings;
  4. Seeking and obtaining County and statutory approvals for engineering designs and drawings;
  5. Preparing tender and contract documentation for engineering aspects;
  6. Liaising with Architects in preparation of layout plans
  7. Participating in evaluation of contractual claims;
  8. Liaising with necessary agencies/authorities for inspections and approvals engineering aspects;
  9. Undertaking monitoring and evaluation of infrastructure projects;
  10. Supervising construction of housing and infrastructure projects to ensure quality and specification with respect to engineering aspects;
  11. Undertaking stakeholder engagement for infrastructure projects and matters;
  12. Mapping out and initiating collaboration with project enablers such as utility and service providers;
  13. Carrying out Appraisal and Certification of completed engineering works and issue necessary certificates;
  14. Preparing documents required to seek and obtain certificate of occupation;
  15. Keeping custody of all project designs, drawings and standard operation manuals;
  16. Participating in research on housing and infrastructure designs, engineering technology and materials;
  17. Ensuring proper custody of all project designs, drawings and standard operation manuals;

Person Specification:

For appointment to this grade, a person must have: -

  1. Cumulative service period of six (6) years relevant work experience, three (3) of which should have been in the grade of Engineer I or in a comparable position;
  2. Bachelors Degree in Civil/Structural/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  3. Graduate Member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (I.E.K) or any other recognized professional body in good standing;
  4. Registered by the Engineers Board of Kenya (E.B.K) as Graduate Engineer;
  5. Member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (I.E.K) or any other recognized professional body in good standing and where applicable;
  6. Proficiency in computer applications; and
  7. Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
